Plaza de Cervantes

Plaza de Cervantes brings university life and everyday town life together. Formerly the market square, it now takes its central reference from the writer’s bronze statue, inaugurated in 1879. Follow one side first, comparing the open space with the arcades and balconies around it. The Corral de Comedias recalls that people gathered here for performances as well as trading goods. Then find a bench and notice how surrounding streets lead towards San Diego and Calle Mayor. The square distributes your walk rather than functioning as an isolated monument.
