Las Huelgas Monastery · optional outing

Las Huelgas needs an outing of its own west of the centre. Founded by Alfonso VIII and Leonor in the twelfth century, the monastery introduces a history where religious life, royal power and funerary memory meet. Before searching for individual details, observe the relationship between buildings and entrance spaces: this is not a stop to complete in a few minutes. Visiting depends on Patrimonio Nacional's arrangements and available areas, so check admission and route beforehand. Plan travel and your return separately. Do not confuse this monastery with the Cartuja de Miraflores, another ensemble situated in a different direction from central Burgos.
